Morro Bay is located on the central coast of California about half way between Los Angeles and San Francisco. Morro Rock is an extinct volcanic plug, one in a a chain of nine stretching for over 12 miles. Morro Rock is approximately 21 million years old and 576 ft high. Juan Cabrillo first sighted it in 1542. Originally surrounded by water the rock was quarried from 1889 to 1969 giving it its shape we see now. The quarried rock was used to create the breakwaters for Morro Bay and connect Morro rock to the mainland.

    The Morro Bay Morro Rock Web Cam is located atop the San Marcos Inn (one of our sister lodgings). The view is looking down Pacific Street towards the Embarcadero and Morro Rock.
